Andrea Nunez, soprano:
My lessons with Michelyn when I was in high school were the highlight of my week. I received excellent training in vocal technique, musical style, and diction which in turn helped me immensely when I decided to audition for Western University’s Don Wright Faculty of Music. Had it not been for Michelyn’s dedication to the success of her students and attention to detail, I would have been unprepared for the demands of a Bachelor of Music degree. She’s the one that inspired me to pursue music as a career and I am eternally grateful for having had her as a teacher.
Danielle Bonaiuto, soprano:
It is thanks to Michelyn that I began my journey to a career as a professional singer with a solid understanding of vocal technique and health. Her excellent ear heard operatic potential in my voice, which to that point I had been using in choral and musical theatre contexts, and she inspired in me an interest in the operatic repertoire through example and exposure – I remember taking home a stack of CD’s including Sumi Jo, Sylvia MacNair, and Dawn Upshaw. She responsibly guided me through appropriately chosen repertoire, instilling in me the importance of musical literacy and attention to detail, as well as coaching my languages, style, and interpretive choices. She equipped me with the tools I would need to go on to study voice at the undergraduate and graduate level, and to work as a professional. Importantly, Michelyn is invested in her students and cares deeply about their progress: she continues to support my endeavours, and even came to hear me sing La Boheme a decade after I left her studio!
Darryl Edwards, Professor of Voice, University of Toronto:
Michelyn Wright has superb training and experience as a vocal artist and teacher. Her students are so well guided by her talent, expertise, encouragement, and the mindfully selected experiences she creates for them. As with the best who thrive in their work and calling, Michelyn’s mastery comes from her own successful journey as a singer and educator. Her students’ abilities and artistry grow from curiosity, enjoyment, goals, focused effort, and the joy of creativity and accomplishment.
Judi Cragg, parent:
My daughter has studied voice with Michelyn for the past 6 years. Michelyn has been a caring and enthusiastic teacher, encouraging her students to take risks and nurturing their potential. She is adept at understanding each singer’s aptitude and is able to motivate them to challenge themselves, as well as to find opportunities for personal success. She is truly invested in her students and her passion for music, as well as her extensive knowledge of vocal technique, is evident in their progress. We would not hesitate to recommend Michelyn!
Joan Cheng, parent:
Our daughter started taking voice lessons with Michelyn Wright at the age of 12, the only goal being the enjoyment of singing. I was absolutely astonished two short years later at the quality of her voice! To know how good Michelyn is as a teacher, you only need to listen to her students sing, and also see how many of them are pursuing voice training at the university level. However, her ability as a voice teacher goes quite beyond her technical skill. The best evidence of her gift as a teacher is that all three of our children now take voice lessons from Michelyn, they all love their lessons with her, and have actually said their lessons are either a great way to start or end the day.
